Coming soon: ESAPP, Geocledian’s EUDR Smallholder App
About 25 million smallholders are producing 4 EUDR commodities. But they are facing the risk of beeing excluded from the EU market. The ESAPP solution will overcome these issues. With a simple app farmers can localise their plantations by just taking a photo and getting the required prove at no costs for him.
Introducing ESAPP
About 25 million smallholders are producing 4 EUDR commodities. But they are facing the risk of beeing excluded from the EU market, if they can not prove their EUDR compliance. The big retailers and traders use their purchasing power to pass their obligations down the chain. The farmer will burden the cost to collect the data and prove that their goods are deforestation free. Smallholders are large in numbers and having low efficiency. They are often representing the highest risk in the supply chain and thus getting replaced by bigger producers. The ESAPP solution will overcome these issues.

ESAPP Workflow
ESAPP is a simple app that will empower smallholders and producer organisations to comply with EUDR without bearing the costs. The free App allows to capture in a very simple way accurate field locations and obtain a proof of deforestation free cultivation.

When selling its crop to a local trader he passes the report ID. This allows to access the geolocation and the EUDR test protocol. It’s then the importer who pays for the information provided.

Essential parts of the prototype
Our App allows to map fields anywhere, also in remote places without internet. You can map your field by taking a photo based on your location or by walking around your field. After that you need to identify yourself and answer several questions regarding EUDR requirements that we need for plausability checks and validation.

When you submit your collected information our server evaluates it based on hundreds of satellite images and other data sets and produces an EUDR Check report. This report can be accessed with the QR code on your phone.
Currently our app is being tested in several countries in South America and Africa
Next steps
The in-field testing campaign is planned to end mid-April (14th). In this period necessary focus is put on testing. From mid-April to mid-June the backend shall be automated. This will enhance the data flow and include sanity checks. In Q3 2025 we will create a next version of the App allowing self-sign on, better farmer identification and strict data privacy. With this next version the go-to market shall be launched.
